A website alone is no longer enough to get found on the internet; these days, you need to establish a true presence in multiple ways to get found. Here's my hot list of must-have marketing for your web presence.
1. Website: Your website is like your own real estate on the web, and without it, you're virtually homeless. Add a
blog page for interaction.
2. Social media: Where you choose to connect depends on who you want to connect with. The good news is that you have a ton of options for social media, and the even better news is that having a solid presence in just a few places where your clients and prospects are is enough. My top suggestions:
Facebook,
LinkedIn, Pinterest.
3. Reviews/testimonials: Of course you will have testimonials on your website and in your marketing materials, but online is necessary, too. Ask your happy clients for reviews on Yelp, Google Places, Merchant Circle, Yahoo Local Listings and Citysearch.
4. SEO (search engine optimization): Either do it yourself or pay an expert to optimize your website for you, because without SEO, your site will be invisible because search engines won't be able to find it easily.
5. Email marketing: Although open rates for email may be low, remember that email is just one of the ways you communicate with your prospects and clients, so get it wired and stay in touch on a regular schedule.
6. CRM: Your Client Relationship Management tool will probably provide you with email as well as autoreponders for your lead generation efforts. Even a micro business with just a few clients needs to keep track of clients and prospects, and a good CRM does that. My current fave is
AllClients.com.
7. Directories: Get your business listed in online directories, as well as you own local business and industry directories so that you show up when people are looking for you. Go to Getlisted.org to get your business indexed in Google, Yelp, Bing, Yahoo, and YP.com, among others.
